Why do I have low water pressure at certain points during the day?Water pressure is measured in Pounds/Square Inch (PSI). This is determined by size of your pipes and the volume from your water supplier (Community, City, Private Water Well). In most houses there are more plumbing fixtures than what the water supply can keep up with. This means that if you go through your entire house and turn on every faucet, hose bib, shower, washing machine, dish washer, etc. at full capacity, there isn’t enough water supply to maintain the same steady water pressure as if just one fixture were being used. One major draw from water pressure is outdoor irrigation sprinklers. Many of these systems use as much as 25 gallons/minute. This means that if you are in the shower and your lawn sprinklers begin to spray, you will notice a difference of water pressure. In this case you should program your lawn sprinklers to run at a time other than when you will be taking a shower. In some cases, your local supply may be in synchronized demand by several houses down your street. If you and your neighbors on all sides are all using the shower, washing clothes, and watering the yard at the same time, you will notice a shortage of pressure. If low water pressure is something you are constantly dealing with, even when you know there are no neighbors or other appliances competing with your demand for water, you may need to contact your trusted local plumber to find a solution for you.
